Notes

Line up

Phil Mason – trumpet
Gerry Owen – reeds
Ron Hopton – trombone
John Muskett – bass
Ron McKay – drums and vocals (tracks 9 & 11)
Les Moore – banjo and vocals (tracks 1 & 2)

The date of recording is not shown on the cassette inlay and 1990 is a guesstimate as it falls midway between the dates on the other 2 FQB tapes I have transferred. Obviously tracks 13 and 14 will have titles and it it is purely down to my ignorance that I can't include them. Dixieland connoisseurs will know them but they are not listed on the cassette inlay card.

NOTE - Thanks to David G. for supplying the titles that were missing from the inlay. I should have known them tbh. His wife Sylvia chose The Old Rugged Cross to play at his funeral and Saints seems so obvious now.

I used this version of Louis Armstrong's "Dallas Blues" (track 04) to accompany the slideshow at Les' funeral, which is on youtube (as is "Hindustan"). Both perfectly illustrate his dry sense of humour. We all miss him very much and nopefully through the archive his music will live on forever. Thanks etree. Keep up the Great Work.

Very nice set. If I'm not mistaken track 13 is a dixieland version of the old gospel standard "The Old Rugged Cross." Track 14 is that old standard "When the Saints Go Marching In" a staple of every New Orleans brass band.
